Somatic Experiencing® Coaching Sessions

Somatic Psychotherapy is a body-oriented approach to healing.  I am trained in a particular method called Somatic Experiencing®  (SE™) created by Dr. Peter Levine.  SE™ works at the level of the nervous system to track bodily sensations and movements to shift patterns of chronic stress and trauma that leave us feeling scared, stuck, shut down, overwhelmed, or disconnected.

Somatic Experiencing® understands trauma and overwhelming stress as a physiological issue, not just a psychological one.

In other words, trauma and stress are experienced and stored in the body and therefore the body needs to be a part of the healing process.

Somatic approaches to healing help clients learn to pay attention to their bodies and track what their nervous system perceives as safe or dangerous.  What the autonomic nervous system reads as safe or dangerous is often different than that of the logical mind.  Often times with trauma and chronic stress, client’s will intellectually know that something is not inherently dangerous – such as getting a ‘B’ on an exam, ending a relationship, or going to a dinner party – but their bodies will respond to these situations with high anxiety and terror fearing catastrophic ends.

Somatic Experiencing® helps clients untangle neural pathways underlying fear, anxiety and terror associated with past traumatic events memories and makes room for the brain-body to respond to triggers differently in present time.  The SE approach deepens your ability to self-regulate, or find more flexibility and balance in your emotions and reactions.

It empowers people to reconnect with balance, hope, and joy in their lives.
